About Us
Kiddie Korral was started by the McGookey family in 1973 with one goal in mind – to provide area children with a safe, loving environment where they can grow and learn. Many of the children who now attend Kiddie Korral are third generation; their parents grew up with us and have now returned and entrusted us with their own children and grandchildren.

HISTORY
Kiddie Korral was established in 1973 by Doris and Harry McGookey as a family enterprise. Our original location, at 1535 Milan Road, opened in May of 1973 and served ten families. From the start, Kiddie Korral was unique in that it not only offered working families child care, but also offered preschool at no extra charge. This was based on the family’s strong belief in the importance of education; that education should begin at an early age, and that no child should be denied the opportunity to attend preschool.
To this end, we incorporated educational programs into our daily schedule and developed a separate preschool, taught by certified teachers. We feel this program is one of Kiddie Korral’s greatest strengths and accomplishments.
Our after-school program began in the fall of 1974. In June 1978, our second center at 1809 E. Perkins Ave. opened. By that time our staff had grown from three child care professionals to 45. In May 1990, our new center at 315 W. Follett St. replaced our Milan Road location. We continue to expand and update both our physical facilities and our programs.
We are proud to say that, since opening in 1973, we have touched the lives of literally thousands of Sandusky area children. Many Kiddie Korral graduates have been placed in advanced programs in area schools and have gone on to graduate with honors from high schools and colleges.
From the beginning, our goal has remained the same – to provide a safe place where children love to come and learn, a place where parents feel comfortable leaving their children. Our motto (and our goal) is to provide what all children need – love, acceptance, guidance and control.
